Without a router, sharing an Internet connection, between multiple computers, can be difficult, but not impossible. If one or more computers are connected to your private network, you can use TMeter to allow them to connect to the Internet as well. The software lets you monitor the traffic for each computer, set up limitations, security measures and much more.

TMeter is freeware, but you must buy a license to remove its limitations. It works on multiple Windows versions, from Windows 2000 up to Windows 8. When the installation process is nearly complete, the setup wizard will prompt you to install additional drivers, but this will not slow you down in any way. You can also choose to install a WMWare compatible packet capture driver, but it may cause problems with PPPoE connections.

You can switch between different pages, on the same interface. They are categorized in a tree structure, located on the left side of the interface. You can access pages which display statistics, services and configurations. Your traffic is displayed as a graph, which you can find on all statistics pages. Besides this graph, you can also view different traffic counters, for each computer, logs, processes, denied packets and more.

As previously suggested, TMeter includes a network address translation (NAT) engine, which allows other computers, on your network, to connect to the Internet, using the same IP address. The NAT page is where you can redirect ports, specify a public IP address or set TMeter to detect them automatically. To protect your network from intrusions, the software comes with a built-in firewall as well. The firewall can be enabled on a different page, where you can also set up exceptions.

Additionally, you may create various filters and rules. This makes it possible to set speed and traffic limits for individual computers, enable packet logging and more. When defining rules, you can select an action, like counting packets, denying them and others, specify a source and a destination, which can be your computer, IP addresses, remote users and more. It is also possible to set up a timetable for your rules.

Pros

TMeter comes with many features, for monitoring your traffic, sharing your Internet connection, setting up limitations for other computers and more. Everything is well organized, on separate pages and some of them contain detailed instructions. The software is free and it takes a few moments to install it, on various Windows editions.

Cons

The freeware edition has a few limitations. TMeter provides you with any information you need, regarding your traffic and it gives you full control to share and manage your Internet connection.
